As a player it is just as simple as any other player. It was as a streamer and/or stream recorder I think that it's quite complicated to use compared to dedicated streaming software.

I agree - VLC is a very good, easy to use, spyware-free media player and as you say, it plays everything.

Well nearly - it let me down once in many, many years, it normally plays every media file I throw at it.

That one pesky file (an .avi container which must have had a file generated codec that VLC couldn't handle) played OK in Media Player Classic.

Don't panic it may look like the old audio player that was shipped with Windows 3.1 but that's where the similarity ends.

It is quick, has a small footprint and doesn't consume much resource.
