There are many other favourite Brandreth riffs like how people got up to vote him out, and the Libs waiting tables, and the hairstyles of Tory leaders, and Hughie Green and opportunity knocking... Mind you he’s probably only done these three or four times each in more than 50 appearances.

We could get similar lists for some others such as Kenneth Williams and Clement Freud. Even Paul Merton seems to have some pet phrases and ideas he returns to.

Here’s an interesting article comparing Paul’s comic mind to Bob Monkhouse. Replace Bob’s name with Gyles in your mind...

Could I amend that first sentence to say "...there's little doubt that GB is a..."?

I'm prepared to accept that he's a clever man, but to say that there's no doubt that he's entertaining is pushing it a little too far. I mean no malice to him and I'm sure that lots of people share lapsedcat's view, but he is most certainly not one of my favourite JAM regulars.

I think Sue Perkins' appearance on show 2 was one of her best. I'm still not entirely convinced by her on JaM, not least because I suspect she's a little too good at the game and sometimes a good orator can dominate and it doesn't make for an entertaining show. However the banter about the emergency stop and the kitten was very good indeed.

Cheers

the way, is it me, or is Sue Perkins getting better and better? She'll never be Linda Smith, but she really has settled well into the format. All we need is for them to persuade Sandi Toksvig to record some shows and I'll be truly happy.
