As a forty something Brit I am happy to say that Bernard Cribbins has been part of my whole life.....he was a comedy actor throughout the 1960s appearing in lots of funny and happy British comedies, and alongside Kenneth Williams in a couple of the better Carry-ons (including Carry on Spying which was a skit on the new phenomena James Bond), whilst he was a mainstay of Children's television in the 1970s and 1980s (Jackanory, the Wombles etc). In Jackanory, books read on TV for kids, he narrated the Hobbit and voiced the part of Bilbo Baggins and made a great success of it. In the 1960s he appeared in the non canon Doctor Who movie Daleks Invasion Earth 2150, and 42 years later was a regular as the grandad in during David Tennant's spell as the Doctor, again battling the Daleks. And if you every fancy some lovely happy British early 1980s TV village-life comedy then check out the Shillingbury Tales DVD in which Bernard appeared as Cuffy. Bernard later starred in his own spin-off.

Bernard's two JAM appearances were him down to a T, and I wish he had done more of them. Time for a recall?

http://www.bernardcribbins.com/works.htm  lists lots of his works.

OK, being a Yank who only knows him from his JAM appearance I'm probably parading my ignorance, but I just found several mp3 downloads on Amazon.com of Bernard Cribbins singing, among other things, the part of Nicely-Nicely Johnson in "Guys and Dolls." (This means the title song, "Fugue for Tinhorns" and "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat." Musical gold -- well, all the songs in G&D are musical gold, I think.)
