Topic: JAM in Radio 4 Extra ads

Last night on BBC2 I saw a new ad for Radio 4 Extra, which included a short round of JAM featuring Paul, Clive Anderson, Marcus Brigstocke and Gyles Brandreth. It's obviously contrived for the ad with them talking about why people should listen to 4 Extra, and has a rather more elaborate set than usual JAM recordings!

Still, it's a rare sight of JAM on the television.

I can see now why the idea of televised JAM never succeeded.  It's the language that matters.  Seeing the speakers start to play to the camera pollutes the essential heart of the show: the words.

That's why it's rare for any film to be better than the book it's based on.  For example, no amount of CGI could handle Paul's dolphins travelling on a double-decker bus...

Radio still very much has its place.
