I totally agree about Shappi, she is getting better all the time. If you haven't had a chance to listen to her R4 show Shappi Talks, I would highly reccomend it. If you don't have it, just say so and I can upload it for you to grab.
All The Best
Paul

Hi Paul
I for one would appreciate you uploading this show.
I'm not her biggest fan on JAM but I did like her on HIGNFY. I've come around to a few people I wasn't greatly enamoured of at first. I never used to like Stephen Fry but I find the great affection that he's held in makes me more curious about him now and I am warming to him more and more.

Same for Paul Merton whom I note is most peoples' fav. I think he's better if he's in a strong group. I don't really care for him winning the show by 20 something points. I have warmed to him lately when I notice he is different depending on those around him. I do think he has a strong presence and does provide a strong anchor for the show.

But at least the great man is a competitor. Now I know the point of the show isn't to win yet Nietzsche's aphorism for music holds true for JAM. The purpose isn't to get to the end. Equally if you don't make it to the end you haven't fulfilled the purpose. So it's the balance between trying to win and entertaining. Speaking for a minute whilst holding to the rules yet also entertaining the audience is an exhilarating ride when it happens. Which brings me to ...

I must admit to loving Sue Perkins. When she starts talking you can hear the audience getting up on their seats as they sense her about to talk for a minute. Not just eloquently, with great panache and fluency, but bringing the audience along with her as she peppers her talk with humour. Her asides in between the rounds show she has the sharpest wit on the panel. Yet I notice that others on this group would hardly agree with that.

When I listen to the show I often think that perhaps people could be challenged more. Especially with deviation. Not just for to interrupt but with genuinely creative lateral thinking. The standard isn't always that high. The last episode with Fry and Perkins was good and entertaining but I find it frustrating when I hear challenges that aren't made.

It's interesting to hear Stephen Fry insult someone and almost immediately ask for forgiveness. It's a trait of his. I kinda like him for it. The worst sin in my opinion is not to give it everything you've got and I was shocked with Terry Wogan's recent appearance when he started a round 3 times by not saying anything. It's only a game but when the quality is and has been so high, then those who just appear without a love for the show will let everyone down. Not least themselves but they should have some respect for the audience and more importantly the show.

I would like to commend this group and say a big thank you on behalf of all of us who receive your postings and uploads. There is a great spirit here worthy of the show.

I liked the poll. Do one every week. It's no bother at all. I can't imagine how it could be. Dean, I loved what I found when I followed your links to your poll results for 2006 and 2009. I recommend that anyone who hasn't yet, to read Dean's reviews of his top 20 participants which are commendably fair and very well judged.

I first heard JAM when I was a kid and my mum would be listening to the radio on a saturday morning and I would be drawn into the show. Especially and for all time by Kenneth Williams.

I have found over the years that this show has just produced more pure joy for me in listening than anything else. It was often a wish of mine that I could have copies of all the shows in a series. I contented myself with collecting all the official stuff. Which leads me somewhat indirectly to this group. I was searching for Series 1 & 3 Of ISIHAC on ebay and someone was selling a cd-rom with shows going back to 1972. I had no idea. I caught myself thinking. If only it was JAM. I later discovered the seller was selling 400 episodes for an extremely cheap price. However, 400 episodes was rapidly putting me off the show. When would I listen to them? So I browsed the internet to find out more and discovered there was over 700 shows. Suddenly my thinking underwent a 180 degree turn and I'm now thinking 400 wasn't enough. Somehow I must have everything. Then through Dean's JAM site I discovered this forum. and I now feel like Aladdin when he discovered the secret cave full of treasures. Well, I'll say right off that I've downloaded all the available JAM & ISIHAC. That's me sorted for 10 years at least. I'd better stop rambling. I could write on and on.

Before I go, I followed some of the old threads. Loved the saga of the lost show (259?) and it's eventual upload. I listened to that and it was well worth it.

I love all the old shows with the original four. I love the way they give each other no quarter. They really went for it. Some of those episodes I've listened to (mainly on the Just a Classic Minute official releases) are pure gold. I love almost all the characters who've appeared over the years.

I even like it when you were posting technical advice. I read somewhere that itunes wasn't rated. It gave me pause for thought. I've since found out how true this observation is.

Like a lot of you reading this, I've applied for tkts for the show for years now. I can't believe I have never got any. I also get friends of mine to apply on my behalf. I do personally think the Beeb should recognise this fanclub and give us priority. I'm fed up of their stupid lottery. It's not fair to Londoners. I live right round the bloody corner and I feel like I'm excluded. My grandiose sense of entitlement not withstanding, I think brothers and sisters that if we all hold together (voice rising like Paul Merton's) than we can insist on our innate right as true (Oh turn it in for gawdsake).

Hope you don't mind the long posting. I'm sure you won't. I would more than anything like to show my deep appreciationn to all of you who have been in this group for years for your great generosity and love for JAM. You're the best!!!

Martin
