Tim Rice has never quite developed into a regular. Here is his appearance pattern...

1980 – one show
1981 – two shows
1982 – two shows
1983 – two shows
1984 – two shows
1985 – two shows
1986 – two shows
1987 – four shows
1988 – NONE
1989 – two shows
1990 – two shows
1991 – two shows
1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 – NONE
1998 – two shows
1999 – two shows
2000 – two shows
2001 – four shows
2002 – two shows
2003, 2004 – NONE
2005 – two shows
2006 – four shows
2007 – two shows
2008 – NONE
2009 – two shows
2010 – NONE

So he was out of the show for most of the 90s and his appearances in the past decade have been erratic. I wondered if he might appear more often to take over Clement’s role as a stickler for the rules but it seems he hasn’t. I would expect him back, but he probably doesn’t produce enough humour when he speaks  on the subject to get on more frequently. I don’t really think he’s been dropped as such, he’s just seen as an occasional, like a few others – Kit, Chris Neill, Pam Ayres, Fred MacAulay, etc.

Where is Tim Rice these days? I just did "find" on Dean's site and note he was pretty regular from 1980 to 2007, then just two since in 2009.

I enjoy Tim's performance as he always gets involved in the banter outside of the 60 seconds, which for me makes the programme. Do we know if Tim has been dropped or is just too busy? Anyone?

I was a bit disappointed actually with those recordings I witnessed live, those with Stephen Fry, Sue Perkins, Fi Glover and Paul Merton. Too many uninterrupted monologues I felt and not enough argy bargy. Tim would have introduced the missing element. But Paul was not on form and nothing surreal transpired as I recall. His surrealism often gets the others involved, bouncing off him. I have not listened to these shows as if on the radio yet, so my perception may change. Maybe seeing the performers and hearing the action through the filter of a live audience in front of and around one affected negatively my perception.

My recommendation is that we vote en masse for Tim. Come back we want you!

Yes, too hard. I had to select 5.

It didn't complain  ;-)

Oh man that was *hard*! It goes to show how incredibly strong lineup they've got.

Anyways, since I only could pick four I did not vote for Merton and Hawks simply cause I expect them to be in the show regardless, plus score high on this vote.

My vote went to four of the younger panellists on the list... :)

just to add -  if we get at least 100 votes I’ll forward the result to the BBC! So who knows, you could be helping to pick future panels.
