The last poll - the final decision - there can be only one winner!

Who deserves to be our favourite panellist?

The master player whose wit, lugubriousness, and barbs at the chairman made him such a distinctive player of the game for 42 years?

Or the witty actor and playwright who never got really good at the game but often had the funniest lines, poking fun at the others?

CLEMENT FREUD or PETER JONES?

This poll will decide the official favourite player.

VOTE NOW!

Personally i dont agree with the final 2. Can kind of understand why Clement but not Peter Jones, he wouldnt be in my top 10.

However the public have voted and that is the outcome. Kind of strange results, one final i dont think anyone would have predicted.

I think I would have bet my month's salary on Clement being in the final, but not Peter, as much as I enjoyed him being on the panel.

What I forgot was the British public's love of the underdog, which Peter certainly played up to, as well as our respect for someone who doesn't take the game/competition too seriously.

Not something you'd encounter too often in New Zealand, eh Dean? Winking smile

I would have put money on Peter Jones, but not Clement.

It's not exactly scientific poll (around 20 each time), but afficiandos like Peter Jones.  I'll say it again.  He can't play the game, but he is very funny

I'm afraid to admit that I am one of the many who has not yet voted but would love to vote for Peter as my favourite. As I can't remember my yahoo identity I will not be able to vote but would love to see Peter win. He had a long career and was so British in his self deprecating way; so endearing. I can't understand why there is no biography of him. When I move from Australia to England later this month I hope to make Wem in Shropshire (his home town) one of the first places I visit. Surely there I will find some reference to him?!

Hello Antony,

I'm sad to say that I wouldn't get your hopes up of finding too much to do with Peter Jones in Wem.

Shropshire is a lovely part of the world and has much to recommend it. Some say Much Wenlock inspired the modern Olympic movement; Shewsbury is a perfectly pleasant county town and, especially if you're into industrial history (as I am), Ironbridge and its surrounding area is a jewel. Throw in a free and wonderful air museum (at RAF Cosford) and it's one of my favourite areas.

I haven't been to Wem itself so can't comment. You may find a blue plaque on the wall marking his birthplace, but then again you may not. He's most famous for doing sitcoms, voiceovers and panel games which tends to make him overlooked, even in as small a place as Wem apparently is. If he'd died more recently then I'm sure he'd have been more widely celebrated. He would beat some of the tenth-rate "celebrities" we currenly see publishing autobiographies at the age of 18...

Just didn't want you to get your hopes up and be disappointed...

Cheers

kJ
