Subject: Re: [just-a-minute] Peter Jones in "Whoops Apocalypse"I just want to make sure that anyone who wants to listen to Peter doing the voice of The Book in the Hitch hikers Guide to the Galaxy knows they are sure to find the radio series on a torrent. I have them here if need be. I really enjoyed his dead pan and rapid delivery of the script. Of course others took over The Book role after he passed on.I preferred the TV series as it gives computer screen animations of Peter's delivery. Not seen the movie.Dave

Subject: Re: [just-a-minute] Peter Jones in "Whoops Apocalypse"Yes I bought Whoops Apocalypse on DVD as well. Peter Jones does play a brilliantly mad PM, as this quote illustrates...Kevin Pork (Peter Jones): I think I've been over-doing things. But I had a talk with the doctor and he gave me some pills to take.
Chancellor of the Exchequer (Richard Davies): It'll be for the best, Kev. I'm sure it will.
Foreign Secretary (Geoffrey Palmer): Which doctor is this then, Kev?
Kevin Pork: Doctor Destiny of Earth Two. Sure; you know him. He helped me to save Lois Lane in the giant star fish of Atlantis.LOLAnt

Subject: [just-a-minute] Peter Jones in "Whoops Apocalypse"While we're on a bit of a Peter Jones theme, I thought I'd mention I recently got the TV series of "Whoops Apocalypse" on DVD.
First of all, if you've only seen the (abysmal) movie, I should say the TV sitcom is better, and has a generally different cast (John Cleese instead of Michael Richards, Barry Morse instead of Loretta Swit, etc.). Even so, I still found it disappointing, despite - or perhaps because of - the excellent cast and writing team.
But back to the point: the best thing in the show is definitely Peter Jones. He plays the prime minister who believes he is Superman, and dissolves the British armed forces insisting he is sufficient to defend the country against nuclear attack.
I've probably gone on too long as there probably isn't much else in "Whoops Apocalypse" to appeal to the typical JAM fan, but if you've ever wanted to see PJ ignite a waste paper basket with his heat vision, now you know where to find it. Plus, the moment with his dog Krypto is priceless.
