Topic: And the winner is...

Message 1 / 6

Would it be possible to make a diagram of the results of all these polls?

When I was a boy I remember during the World Cup having a poster with a sideways pyramid on it and you put the teams and scores on it as the games went through to the final.

Just a thought.

Love, David

P.s. I am not suggesting a "play off" for third place.

Something like this, David? (Assuming you can open the attachment).

And hello, everyone; my first post on this forum although I’ve been enjoying it hugely from the sidelines. Keeps me sane down here in Western Australia, so many, many thanks to everyone involved.

On the subject of this poll, I realised when I put the chart together that I’ve voted for the winner in every round so far. Wish I was a betting man.

Cheers,

Matt

That looks really nice Matt... did you give your final vote to Peter Jones? If you did you really did decide things.

Thanks to all who voted and commented. :)

and welcome out of lurking, Matt. Maybe you want to add this to the files section?

cheers, Dean

Thanks a lot that was great.

Looking at your chart I wonder if the same people kept voting for Kenneth Williams and the same kept voting for Clement Freud etc.

Although I never voted I must say I have enjoyed reading the posts. Not sure if I would have picked the winner as Peter Jones, but what do I know?

Love as always, David

Yes Dean, I did vote for Peter Jones in the final round (to me he personifies the game), although I was pleased to see how close the final score was.

I've updated the summary of the results and added it to the files section, as you suggested. I thought I'd replace the photo of Nicholas with one of Peter but good ones are hard to find on Google Images. Plenty of that OTHER Peter Jones (the excrescence from Dragon's Den) but few of the genial old master himself.

In case you've not seen it, here's the link to an obituary for Peter written by Douglas Adams in 2000: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A297920
"He had the air of a bank manager who had been fired for being too nice to people".

I can't speak for the others but I know my votes jumped about quite a bit. For instance, in Round 1 I voted for Derek Nimmo rather than Kit Hesketh-Harvey, then in the next round for Paul Merton rather than Derek, then Clement rather than Paul in the semi-final then Peter rather than Clement in the final.

Probably the hardest decisions to make were Gyles Brandreth vs Graham Norton and Clement vs Paul.
