In all seriousness, I'd like Andy Hamilton to appear on JAM. He's a comedian and writer with a very gentle tone of voice, but with a very satirical mind. He's appeared on Have I Got News For You (many times alongside Paul Merton), I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and The News Quiz.

Simply put: Every comedian that has been a guest at the Graham Norton talkshow (he usually have one comedian as guest at every show). I have seen plenty of comedians there who (seemingly) are incredibly good at improvising.

I think Michael Palin's alreaday appeared in an episode, hasn't he?

I'd like to see Dara O'Brien because I think he's well suited.
As would Hugh Dennis, and a few other of the Mock the Week clan. Not convinced about Andy Parsons tho. I think he'd struggle to bring his full comedic talents thru the game.

There are some interesting suggestions in those 5.

Greg Brady would probably be worth a punt (no pun intended). If history is anything to go by he could be in London this month for the NFL game at Wembley - he's covered them for the BBC in the past. It would be interesting to hear a different accent and have a transatlantic perspective.

I was impressed by Bob Mills on the News Quiz recently - he wouldn't have occurred to be as someone who would be good on that but he was and could fill the political gap that Alan Coren left, if not the intellectual one. (I already know that Alan played a character on the News Quiz which didn't necessarily fit with his private views - a bit like Al Murray).

I've been thinking recently that JaM needs some more non-comedians. People like Gyles - despite him not being a favourite of mine - undoubtedly add value to the show. It's good to see Rick Wakeman doing well as well. So if I had a vote I'd cast it in favour of after dinner speakers, sportsmen, musicians, artists, scientists, ex-politicians and generally people who would bring a different dynamic to the show. Off the top of my head, people like Michael Vaughan, Ben Miller (a scientist as well as a comedian) or David Lloyd.

Or, while Greg Brady's been mentioned, how about people from other countries. Henning Wehn has done very well on The Unbelievable Truth and Adam Hills always makes me laugh.

Cheers

You've worked out my thinking!

JAM has enough comedians. It needs some balance (or it risks being another throw-away panel game show). It's why I like it when Gyles, Rick Wakeman, Charles Collingwood or Pam Ayres are on with comedians. NB they would make a terrible panel together. There haven't been too many International players, but I think it would add variety

It would be great to try a sportsman, scientist, historian etc

I thought about Henning Wehn (who is exceptional live incidentally) but I'm not sure he'd be very good at the game. I'm pretty sure David Lloyd would be terrible too.

Andy Hamilton - I agree, but seems a good commentator and writer and not so much a comic performer.
I would like to see Hugh Laurie given another go. That's two of us.
I have tried to picture what a JAM with Ramona Marquez would be like.........With the above two guiding/influencing her career she has developed an attitude. Winner of the Best Female Comedy Newcomer 2009 of the British Comedy Awards. A hit show co-written by Andy Hamilton, with bags of improvisation. And Ramona is ten years old.

Mark Steel - too political, may try to make a point rather than entertain.
Carol Thatcher may be up for it - but would be pilloried by Paul.
Ronnie Corbett - never seem him do anything without a script, but bang up to date with his Blackberry not working sketch (which should be on youtube if you've not seen it)
Jonathan Ross - too dangerous
Clive Anderson - he would try and play the game
Jo Brand - her male look-alike, John Sergeant, faired badly, but would she?
Dara O'Briain - a distasteful debut maybe blotted his copybook (the pirate incident!)
Sean Lock - is Sean funny or articulate?
Lucy Porter - would no doubt raise Nicolas' interest, a la Shappi.

Bring back Tim Rice
And Tony Slattery.

I have never been into North American input into the show.

There used to be a good showing of boffins on the show. I drove down to Cornwall a few years ago and listened to the edition with dashing TV historian Michael Wood, 2 decades after the show was broadcast. Amazingly when I called in at Tintagel Castle I came across Michael filming a documentary about King Arthur. I liked his JAM performance.

As an Oz resident, several names mentioned earlier mean little or nothing to me.

But I think Noel Fielding would be interesting to have on JAM. I've seen him on Never Mind the Bollocks (and of course The Mighty Boosh) and he seems both fluent and suitably off-the-wall to compete.

Don't you EVER swear at me! >:) devil

Sorry about that. I'll explain who the ones I mentioned are and why I think they'd be interesting on JaM

Michael Vaughan - former Yorkshire and England cricket captain. An absolute star on Test Match Special (TMS). He has a sense of humour that appeals to me and he's quick with banter and has a wealth of anecdotes.

Ben Miller - almost completed a PhD in physics but dropped out and formed a comedy partnership with Alexander Armstrong, most famously in the Armstrong and Miller Show - no idea if it's been shown in Oz or elsewhere. Most memorable to me is a pair of Biggles-type RAF officers who talk in modern street slang. He was also in a few films (including Johnny English) and is also in Primeval - a series which chiefly seems to be about dinosaurs coming through time to modern times and causing mayhem. Again, no idea if it's appeared in Oz. He also has presented science documentaries, including a good one on temperature for the BBC Horizon series.

David Lloyd - another former cricketer, this time for Lancashire (my home county) and England, as well as a coach and umpire in first-class cricket. He's also a commentator on Sky Sports (spit) and is known as Bumble. My reason for thinking he might be OK on JaM is mostly because he's a first-class after dinner speaker, as well as a desire to hear an accent which is rather like my own.

Henning Wehn is a German comedian. Honestly. And he's really good. My reason for thinking he might bring a refreshing perspective is partly because he thinks the unthinkable for Britons. As an example, he was on the News Quiz during a recent scandal about politicians abusing the parliamentary expenses system and dared to say that one of the reasons it happens is because politicians aren't paid enough. He was shouted down, extremely childishly, by some of the other panelists (including Sue Perkins and Susan Calman) but his point was valid.

I'm sure I needn't tell an Ozzie who Adam Hills is, though. He was the host of Spicks and Specks on ABC, of which we occasionally get bits of in the UK. But he's probably most famous in the UK for being on Mock The Week.

Cheers

Many thanks for the background. Yes, I've heard Henning on The Unbelievable Truth and he's a hoot... "third time lucky" he said in reference to world wars.

Cheers

Yes! Adam Hills!

He goes to Edinborough every year, so I hope the BBC can talk him into a JaM appearance!

As well as being genuinely funny, he is intelligent, so I’m sure he could pick up the JaM concept quite easily.

aw, I like Jonathan! Often thought he would be good, but I wonder if he'd get called for deviation because of his speech impediment, the way Derek Nimmo often got called on for his stammer.
I'm still clamoring for Ed Byrne to appear, but he'll probably return to Twitter before he pops up on the show.
