I saw Tony in Bolton last night at the Albert Halls. Very nice 2 hours. I actually ran into him early on at the back of the building as he was getting stuff from his car, and it was like bumping into a mate...sooo friendly...and nice!

Tony never mentioned Just A Minute last night unprompted, and that was in response to my card questions about Just A Minute. I had placed several questions on cards and amazingly all were answered. Did he recall the occasion when Tony won and Nicholas decided to promote the second place to joint winner? Yes he did. And what was his favourite JAM period, the 90s with the three old regulars, the 00s, or post Clement. He opted for the 90s when he was just amazed to be in a show that he had listened to as a kid, but he said the regulars didn't accept him for some time..he, like all the new arrivals, had to prove himself until they warmed to him. But Peter was nice all along! He knows Dean's website and said a bit about it as a treasure trove which he checks occasionally - says of the living players, he is now second in terms of games played. As part of this interchange, and I was right at the front, I told him (and the audience) of our forum, and admitted to playing JAM on my ipod every night...he got the wrong end of the stick and asked how you can play Just A Minute on an ipod (alone?), so I explained we shared 100s of editions of the show and I listened every night...I fell asleep with Tony every night. As a joke he moved his seat away slightly. I also got him to talk about the RIWAF movie, and how it came about, with near miss versions. The question which won the DVD was, if you could be reincarnated as a cheese, which sort would it be and why? Which stumped him, because, amazingly, he had never actually given any thought to this crucial life question. How remiss of him.

Afterwards he signed my show flier, identifying me as the Just A Minute Man (indeed) and said he knew this was the first series he would be missing since he started but couldn't do any because of the tour. However, he will be filming some of the TV shows week after next. He passed an opinion on the probability of success, which I won't share, but which I covered in my response to JAM on TV, but knew nothing of the proposed India show(s).

If you like Tony, and he is nice, then you will enjoy this show,

Dave

Hi all,

Just got back from seeing Tony's show at the Lowry in Salford. I really enjoyed it - he performs some songs, some of his own and some from other people, does a silly Powerpoint presentation, talks about his life and is generally most amusing. It's a very Radio 4 type of evening.

Interestingly he did a short segment on doing Just A Minute at the Lowry when Nicholas got an award - I think this was the same show that Miriam saw. He says he later ran into Nicholas while Tony was performing and Nicholas was in the same town promoting his book. I don't know that was just for the show in Salford but, just in case he does it elsewhere again, I won't spoil his punchline.

If I had one tip, think of a question to ask him - you write it on a bit of paper so don't have to shout it out - and you may win a prize. He's also selling the DVD and CD of the film for a few quid and did a signing session after the show.

All in all, a good night out and most recommended.

Cheers

kJ
