Topic: spam messages

We’ve had a third member (I believe) unintentionally send out a spam message, all within about two weeks.

A couple of years back I introduced a rule whereby no-one can post to the group until approved for posting to stop spambots. That has been effective in stopping them (they don’t even join the group any more).

I am worried about this current trend. Would people like me to moderate messages so that obvious spam doesn’t get sent out to all? Obviously that would mean some conversation wouldn’t flow as easily as I am not at the laptop 24/7.

Post your views and I’ll think about it too

Personally I'm aware enough to filter out the spam even when it is well formed and presented as something else.  I think more of this type of spam is spoofed and not from the PC of the person's email address used. The issue is once a cluster of email addresses is captured by the spammers they can/will use that grouping to email others within the group while rotating the spoofed originating email address.

Although this group is generally offers a low volume of posts per day/week I'm not sure you want the admin overhead of approving each email, which might lead to people posting multiple times when their message does not appear.

I don't think the problem is big enough to change the current process.

Badger.

Yes, I'd also like to second Badger's suggestion. It's no big deal.

Has "Spam" ever been a JaM subject, by the way? It could be a cracker.

Cheers,

Matt
