I don’t know for sure, but I would say it is far more likely that the shows are edited by the broadcaster rather than before sale, even in the old days. Radio broadcasters have to time to the second and shaving a few seconds, particularly of something like applause, is something that probably goes on in most broadcasters all the time. I work in radio and I’ve done this myself (not to JAM or Clue of course!)

Hi Dean. I've always known that TS versions of programmes were often edited down by TS before being exported so as to accomodate overseas commercial buyers. And therefore that ABC versions have probably always been shorter than the original UK broadcast versions. But I wasn't aware that ABC were doing their own further truncation of the already edited TS disc versions until I noticed a few days ago that I was getting shorter files for ISIHAC episodes from the ABC than I got from ABC only a couple of years ago - shorter versions of the same episodes.
