And there was me thinking that up until this month someone at the ABC was sitting down at 5:30am and putting an actual TS disc onto a turntable and playing it with a stylus. Hence I couldn't see how they could chop bits out of it (as opposed to, say, fading out before the end of the playout music) without digitising first.

Radio broadcasters have to time to the second and shaving a few seconds, particularly of something like applause, is something that probably goes on in most broadcasters all the time. I work in radio and I've done this myself (not to JAM or Clue of course!)
