Just A Minute returns to the TV screens on March 12th! Monday to Friday at 6pm for two weeks. So it will be overlapping with the radio series...

... The big question is: Are there someone who will record these episodes and share them? We got some BBC channels here in Norway, but far from all. And even if we do I'm actually unsure how to transfer them from the PVR to the PC for sharing - I don't think there is an easy way at all.

Espen

I'm sure they will turn up as avi (xvid format) files on torrent sites such as TheBox and (unless a DVD release is imminent) UKNova. Maybe even public sites like Demonoid.

And I wouldn't be at all surprised to find someone in this forum posting links to download from. If no-one else does then I could probably be persuaded!

Hi folks,

I'll be recording them for my own purposes so I could transfer them to digital format if that would be useful.

It is a bit of a pain for me to do it - I'd need to record them on the old V+ PVR box, transfer them off onto a DVD recorder, rip them off the DVD onto a PC and then edit them down - so if anyone has a slicker way of doing it then I'd prefer if they could do it. But if all else fails then I will.

If I am doing them then they aren't going to be instantly available as we've grown used to with our kind people who provide the various MP3s so I'd ask for patience.

Cheers

Hi

It would be good also if someone posted just the audio. The download size for video can get large, and I think many of us listen when travelling and wouldn't look at the pictures anyway (as with the existing files of the original series).

If only we get the video recording of the show on file there's many of us on the list here who can rip off the audio track and put that into a file of its own. That's no problem. :)

I don’t usually intervene in file sharing threads because of my lamentable lack of technical knowledge so please excuse any idiocy following.

In this case, wouldn’t it be best to file the videos to YouTube or other similar site. then anyone who wanted to could download them very easily. Many of the TV panel shows – Buzzcocks, QI, Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You – do all get filed there anyway.

Perhaps if we can get a few people prepared to do this, we could work out a schedule. As I understand it, the shows will all play over two weeks so it might be convenient to share the task.

Personally I would also like to update the site within a few hours of the programmes going to air. If anyone is interested in helping me with that, please send me an email, off-list at dbedford@.... Again this could be shared between a few people if more then one person were interested...

cheers, Dean

High quality copies of the JAM TV Series will be carried on UKNova.com a free sign-up torrent site that carries many UK based TV programmes.

Although there is some rumour that the series will air on the 12th March, the TV schedules are published for that date and there is no mention of it in them.

Just to Note: Youtube has been pulling most of the last 2 series of Have I got News for You so while some shows stay posted some get deleted if the production company or whomever complains to Youtube.
One person's account was totally deleted that was posting HIGNFY.

I would say the by far best solution on such large files like this is to share them via torrents first. Youtube videos are quite compressed and as far as I know you need to rip them off the flash stream.

The best would be to get some good copies into circulation, and then rather from there upload them to video sites for user friendlyness etc. But we should establish some shared version of the prime version of the recordings first, simply to "get them out there" in the best possible quality first.

In My Opinion, of course.

I would recommend DropBox (also In My Humble Opinion  =o)
http://www.dropbox.com/

With a free DropBox account you get 2GB - more than enough for our use.

It has lots of very useful facilites - http://www.dropbox.com/features

I am a member of the previously-mentioned UKNova.
This is a members-only BitTorrent community, they only only open membership occasionally
and have no invite system so it might be quite a wait before you can get in.

Hi folks,

I would also add that many of the torrents they have there are not for re-distribution, i.e. members may download them for their own use but may not post them elsewhere.

We should make our own copies, to be on the safe side.

Cheers

Hi all. Another problem with YouTube is that not many people can post videos more than 10 minutes long.

I'll be watching UKNova too for these TV JAMs. My problem with UKNova is that I hardly ever get anything to upload to it, so my ratio can drop quickly. One can boost one's ratio by contributing to the site, but their Paypal donation is not working.  Hmphh!

On UK Nova, I had a look last night and I was able to join very simply last night and have posted in the forums and been welcomed! http://www.uknova.com/wsgi/topic/view/102017 Of course I haven’t as yet tried to post a file or download one there – but it looks like joining up isn’t an issue.

On YouTube, people can have their material ripped down if its a breach of copyright – but if you look here you can see that the last series of Have I Got News For You is still available and being posted by several different people http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hignfy+series+42&oq=hignfy+series+42&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&gs_sm=3&gs_upl=214l5503l0l6255l13l13l0l6l6l1l588l2541l2.1.4-1.3l7l0 Having said that – if we did post on YouTube you’d be well advised to download from there to yr PC in case it did get pulled down. On durations the files often get posted in 10 minute bits. This doesn’t bother me, but if there are better sites that’s great.

Dropbox looks very promising though the Forum page seems to be full of complaints. Still I’d take Don’s advice if he finds it good.

I liked the tenor of Espen’s comments too.

Totally agree with kJ - I have mentioned before that not everything on there is for re-distribution.

Mark - you don't have to upload anything to keep your ratio, in fact you have to apply to be an uploader and be approved.
I have been a member for 5 years and have never uploaded anything.
I just make sure I seed anything I download until the Torrent expires and my score is always good.
Plus I download the popular progs such as JaM :) happy, ISIHAC, News Quiz, Now Show, Afternoon Play
So there's always plenty of people wanting to leech them.

We use DropBox on another radio programme 'archive' site, always works for us.
John Lucas tells me you were active there once upon a time Dean....

Alternatively, there is always The Pirate Bay public BitTorrent tracker, not seen any restrictions there.
As with all public BT trackers - Caveat emptor - "let the buyer beware", nasties can lurk there.

I'm sure the programmes will appear on at least some of the many BT sites and trackers, public and private.
We will not get left in the dark.

Hi Don. You're right about the seeding, but I've left several UKNova torrents seeding for months without any takers.  Since everyone is keen to keep their ratio up, everyone seeds prolifically and there's a lot of competition.

Uploading new content gives your ratio a boost until others fully download it and start to seed too. The problem is getting new UK TV material in Oz!  I did it once when I recorded a short comedy in which Bob Geldof got deserted in a small town with no money or ID and entered himself in a Bob Geldof Lookalike Contest to try to win enough money to escape.

That's why I rely on donating to UKNova to keep my ratio up.

Sounds more likely; it's not listed in next week's Radio Times, at any rate.

I'm going to try and record them on my old SKY+ box and then find a way to get them onto a DVD, then the PC.
Not sure if I am going to get it working, but it's worth a try.

I'll be keeping a lookout on TheBox as well, and happy to recommend people who aren't on there.
