Topic: Another plea for help...

Message 1 / 8
Chris WilliamsMar 11, 2012

Hey gang,
I am still on my journey through the entire series of 'Just a Minute' and I need help.

My copy of episode 339 (Getting a Thrill - 30th June 1984) is simply DREADFUL. From about 5 minutes into the episode it becomes really unclear. It makes for very poor  and unenjoyable listening.

Then the very next episode 340 (A Hoax - 7th July 1984) has several minutes missing from the start of the episode.

So, have a look at your archives and see if you have the same copies I have. If anyone has either of these episodes in better condition than I do then I would be extremely grateful if I may obtain a copy.

Thanks everyone,

CW.

I got both in complete versions:
Getting A Thrill (6.5 mb) has a hiss in the background, the sound is far from perfect (it has that typical 80s flat/weak dynamics) but it is more than audible, I'd say. So I assume I got a different version than you of both those episodes.
The Hoax episode (12.2 mb) is with good sound and is a complete recording.

Can I just mail them to you directly, or would that be too large for your mail account?

I'd appreciate a copy too please Espen as mine are the same as Chris's.

Any chance of you upping them to, for example, MediaFire and sharing the link ?

You didn't have them either? Of course I can upload to a file share site, I'll get back to you all on that.

But this makes me wonder: Where the HECK did I get those files from? Also, maybe I got more completes or better sounding ones laying around here that I wasn't aware you guys missed?

Anyhow, if there are other poor quality files around please tell and I'll go and see if there are more luck to be found.

Both episodes available here are listed as incomplete so i have no idea where the complete version came from (if i had any idea how to upload i would). Very strange. And whilst we're on series 24 does anyone have 342 complete? My copy is missing the start.

Is there an up-to-date list which documents which episodes are lost and which are incomplete. I know that a few of the very early episodes are missing presumed lost. Hopefully someday they will be rediscovered.

(if i had any idea how to upload i would)

Another string to the file sharing bow....
It's all done via your web browser

I have recently discovered and started to use SkyDrive.
25GB of free online storage, max filesize of 100MB.
The advantage over MediaFire etc is that recipients can add as well as retrieve files by using drag'n'drop, if allowed by you.

You get a Public folder where you put files that anyone can retrieve from or add to if you allow it.
Just post, put on a website or email the URL obtained from the dialogue as follows
Share folder > Get a link

You can share any other folders you create with specific people by using their email address.
They get sent a link by email to retrieve any files therein.
You can share them publicly too with a link obtained as for the Public folder above.
Again, in either case, if you allow it, they can add files too.

If you have a Microsoft Live ID (you do if you use MSN, Hotmail, Xbox Live) you don't even have to sign up, it's yours already.

http://www.windowslive.co.uk/skydrive

http://login.live.com/login.srf?

No issues with it yet.
As with all these public online storage facilities, be careful how you use them, Big Brother may be watching what you upload there...

I have the same poor quality #339 (and would love an upgrade), but I have a clear 12MB version of JAM-1984-06-31@340=Hoaxes-v2.mp3

I, too, cannot remember whence it came.

Is mine bigger than yours?

Hi Mark,
I am turning to you as pretty much a last resort. You have been the only person who responded to my plea for help in finding the episodes of JAM that I am so desperately looking for. I am hoping that you will be kind enough to help me out.
Please would it be possible for you to either email me or post to the group the two episodes listed below:

340 - A Hoax - 7th July 1984
353 - Seals - 13 March 1985

I know you said that you have a good clear copy of 'A Hoax'. I am hoping that you also have a complete copy of 'Seals', however even just 'A Hoax' would be fantastic. If you need any episodes in return please let me know.

Chris W.
