Greeting all: I'm a new member from New England, and I'm excited to be here! I'm a fan of earlier American radio programs, which led me to stumble upon JAM. I'm sure I don't have to explain to anyone here how enjoyable the show is. Thanks for allowing me to join your group!

Thanks Don.

There certainly is an abundance of content here. I've been enjoying some of the TV programs that were created to celebrate JAM's 45th anniversary. It was fantastic watching Sue Perkins (one of my favorites) burn an the entire 60 seconds on the Tuesday broadcast, discussing a chinchilla!

In American terms I guess Pete's a fan of what's known as Old Time Radio, which aired in the USA prior to 1963. Any radio drama, including scripted comedies. Most of which is well worth a listen on line, on the thousands of websites dedicated to OTR - as it's termed.

That's correct - By the 60's, American radio was reduced to news & talk shows. In 1982, CBS made one last stab at reviving their interests with a program called Radio Mystery Theatre, which ran 1,399 original scripted shows from 1972 though the end of 1982.

I recently retired, so I'm spending more time sorting out my collection. I consider American television to be frightfully boring, with the exception of public broadcasting, which gets a portion of its content from the BBC. So I'll stick with radio.

For anyone interested, here's a few links that will keep your ears busy for many hours:

Immagination Theater ( from my hometown seattle) had been making radio dramas for over 30 yrs & is still going strong

There are a couple of Panel shows- Wait Wait Don't Tell me- close to a usa version of News Quiz

Says You- a Word/Triva show- that I have attended several recordings of when it has come to seattle

Some of the 'Twilight Zone' radio shows have aired onBBC Radio 4 Extra, which you can hear online.

Guess I should make clear that 1963 marked the end of the Network broadcast of OTR. That was the end of drama and scripted comedy on the commercial stations linked with ABC, CBS and NBC.
