There have been many times, and there have even been times when the audience totally disagreed with a decision Nicholas has made when he has actually told the audience to 'shut up!' and that he even threatened to 'turn them all out' whatever the hell that meant.  he's even one time asked the audience or put a decision to them, and after asking them to help him with a decision, he turns around and says to the audience 'You ignorant lot, you don't know!'  or one time someone actually stood up and helped out with a confirmation about something that Clement was talking about, the person was very intelligent and informative and Nicholas turns around and says to him 'You were bribed!'   I could go on and on, but honestly, if you think that's Nicholas being ingratiating to the audience, well then we must have some very funny views on things don't we?

I have to say that I don't remember any time that Nicholas has insulted the audience, or that he has told the panelists that their performance has been "bloody awful".  In my recollection, he has been nothing but ingratiating towards the audience, and has always been very complimentary towards the panelists.
