Noticed in episode 3 of the new series that Nicolas gave Sue Perkins a bonus point for going for 48 seconds, this bugged me. The game is to speak for 60 seconds without hesition, repetion or deviation, not 48 or 53 or even 59.

This started a few years back and if things continue soon panelists will be getting bonus points for getting a word out.

Yes im annoyed.

Well I am with you on that- to me the Only exception would be if someone made a "non" challenge at the 59th second or a maybe a First timer ( but only at the 58-59 second mark)

Nicholas (bless his heart) Can get a bit too Free & Easy with those "bonus" points too with the more senior players.
( and this is coming from a loyal Paul Merton fan)
JMO

PS It's nice to see some posts here-awfully quiet for a current series airing- or have I missed out on a different forum for JAM? :)

Re the new series i dont think its been anything spectacular, not that its been dull, far from it.

Sue continues to not entertain me, lots of talking but no laugh out loud moments (i dont think lol is right anymore).
Paul and Julian are excellent when on the same panel and really bounce of each other.
Tony has become one of the deserved regulars of the show and is good to see him listed on an upcoming panel.
Greg Proops hasnt changed from saying little and hesitating a lot, probably had about 5 lines in episode 4. Nicolas said it was the contribution that matters, presumably all the other bits were edited out then.
Richard Herring has potential to become a semi regular like Stephen Fry but considering his only previous show was in 2009 will he be back in near future series?

Hi all
It seems that JAM is in need of an injection new blood to try out. The issue is with availability to work on a show that moves about as well. The old players such as Clement, Peter and of course Kenneth were not in demand as much as the younger ones. The time factor is a major issue and so is the fact that many just cannot play the game correctly. They seem to want to promote themselves at the expense of the show.

The problem with new blood is that they are a getting so much leeway, it used to be 1 chance and that was it, Kenneth, Clement, Peter and Derek were on to them, now they are getting 3 or 4. The sniff of blood (so to speak) is still there by the regulars but generosity is over applied.
Another problem is that a lot of the newbies arent that good. Cant think of many who have came in over the last few years and made a big impression.

Yet its still one of the best shows on the radio by a distance.

On another note delighted to see in the list of shows being recorded over the next few months is a 2 part Old Harry's Game. The funniest comedy series in a long time, not just on radio.

Mathew - Another problem is that a lot of the newbies arent that good. Cant think of many who have came in over the last few years and made a big impression.

Dean – There’s something in this, I think. Here’s a list of people to have debuted since 2007....

Josie Lawrence, Shappi Khorsandi, Alun Cochrane, Phill Jupitus, Dave Gorman, Chris Addison, Jack Dee, Ian McMillan, David Mitchell, Justin Moorhouse, Rick Wakeman, Richard Herring, Miles Jupp, Paul Sinha, Cyrus Broacha, Kevin Eldon, Fi Glover, Jason Manford, Mike McShane, Anuvab Pal, Terry Wogan, Stephen K Amos, John Bishop, Hugh Bonneville, Jason Byrne, Jo Caulfield, Lynn Ferguson, Robin Ince, Ruth Jones, Russell Kane, Josie Long, Stephen Mangan, Russell Tovey, Suki Webster

Josie I think has fitted in really well. I sort of like Shappi but if she never appeared again, I wouldn’t miss her. Of the rest... only Phill Jupitus, David Mitchell and Russell Kane really stand out.

Russell in particular must get another recording soon, surely???

Mathew - Yet its still one of the best shows on the radio by a distance.

Dean – One of?????? Smile

Dean – I don’t think availability is a big factor. I think if they wanted to have the likes of Tony Hawks, Gyles Brandreth and Sue Perkins on more often they probably could. I think the producers have decided that Paul will be the only regular. Remember too in the 70s, the old players would have been busy – Clement was a MP, for example.
