The antagonistic attitude of Paul against the host, Angus Deayton, is atypical and startling.
Googling the personal life of Angus yields revelatory material.

Having only seen this one ep of HIGNFY, I could only judge Paul from his amiable nature in JAM. He must really have disliked Angus!

Surely you wouldn't say atypical if you saw more of the HIGNFY episodes with Deayton as host.

Paul's antagonism (scripted or not) grew as the years went on, culminating with the infamous episode after Angus' fall from grace, or whatever her name was.

It has bee a long time ago but does anyone else remember Paul's then wife, Caroline Quentin calling him a "pig" on HIGNFY?

I thought it was a false memory implant until I found this article:

They also used to joke on HIGNFY that Angus was having an affair with Paul's wife.....until Paul left his wife and Angus was fired.
