Topic: would I lie - australian readers

Hi

for those who may have caught Dean's obsession, would i lie to you is now on ABC on Wednesday nights after Randling

I had watched one of Dean's links so knew what to expect, my wife didn't and really enjoyed it.

Maybe it will replace QI as the filler-program of choice at the ABC???

Jeremy

I was quite keen to see it, but I must say that I'm now re-thinking my previous suggestion that Rob Brydon might be a contender as the new JAM chairman.

He did seem to want to be the highlight of the show rather than being a host and bringing out the best of the contestants' talents... and his impersonations do start to wear a bit thin after umpteen repetitions.

Good point about Rob, i wouldnt want to hear endless impressions of Terry Wogan and Ronnie Corbett every series.

It’s becoming a sort of in-joke for the fans, like Mornington Crescent.

I do think it’s David Mitchell and Lee Mack that make WILTY the success it is. But Rob is a better funnier chairman than Angus Deayton who did it for the first two years.

On a chairman for JAM (if Nicholas ever goes), I still think Gyles the most likely at the moment.

hi all
no i dont think Giles at all. he is too full of himself and how important he is. I still feel that we need someone who takes the mick out of himself and does not mind others doing the same. Nick is a comedy actor/foil and always has been. Seems that we wont all agree no matter who gets it. Perhaps a series of guests chairs might be good with a vote
by the public.

Since the Chairman thread has resurfaced, I'm thinking Julian Clary would be interesting.
He's relatively quiet but quick with a retort when necessary.

Julian would be very interesting and very funny. It would change the nature of the show though, making it much more camp. It’ll be interesting to see if they see if they go for a chairman who will be like Nicholas – ie. Gyles – or to someone who would reinvent the job in their own style, like Julian would.

I think Julian would be fun. But look at ISIHAC – rather then using Humph’s death to rejuvenate the show, they chose the chairman who did the most convincing Humph impression. I tend to think the BBC is most likely to play it safe.

Hi

Have you seen him in Annually Retentive - the mockumentary  with game show? That was supposedly a persona, but he is 'playing' the same person in would i lie.
I agree re the impressions - he seems to have 4 - pacino, cain, corbett, hmm can't think of another. One good thing (from annually & this) is that he is constantly chided for his impressions & lack of versatility

He does a passable imitation of himself, but I've heard better  :-)
