Does anyone else think that's NP doing the voiceover on the Wonga adverts?
If it is him - why the hell did he do that?

I certainly thought it was him, from the first hearing. Unmistakeable.

If I was doing it, it would be for the money.

I thought it was him as well. After all we've had Dale Winton advertising money for gold! I think Dale would be a good guest on the show BTW. Has he been on before?

Exactly, that's why I'm shocked, assuming it is NP. If it is him, they must have fed him quite a story line.

Someone recently worked out their interest rates work out to 4000% APR!!!

Sounds like Nicholas to me as well. Didnt Paul advertise toilet tissues or paper years ago? I remember a bit of banter between Paul and Angus Deaton on Have I Got News For You about their tv adverts.

Dale Winton was on the JAM tv series years ago. I havent seen it, no wait i saw about a minute on youtube before turning it off, it was horrendous viewing. Heres a link to a clip with possibly the worst panel in the history of JAM on sight alone - Tony Slattery, Dale Winton, Arthur Smith and i think John Sessions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqKNmqQVUis

Those itv shows should be thrown into a black hole.

I was surprised to hear Nick's familiar tones on this ad for a firm of less than pure reputation, but I can't blame him... If I was his age and a large wad of cash was offered for a few hours of my time I'd take it. After all he may be wanting to leave something behind for his wife and family should the worst happen...

(BTW I think Dale Winton would be terrible...! I'd suggest Harry Hill for an appearance.)

Hello All
This is interesting as the views on his working for Wonga Add seems to have upset some people. I agree somewhat with Steven in that he needs to work as he is an actor at the end of the day.  Someone of his standing would not be very well paid as his TV work is limited and radio pays a lot less as it does have smaller listener numbers than viewing TV shows. This is one reason why he has tried to push JAM onto the TV for many years as is evidenced from his many references to TV and JAM within the show itself. As for having a moral compass and perhaps not working for this or that company. Very few people will know its him and he is not credited anywhere as far as I could search, so not much to lose and with repeat fees a lot to gain.
Yes Harry Hill may well be good at this as he is an intelligent man and it would be nice to hear him have a go, but he does like to hug the limelight a bit and this may put him off.  What about Angus Deyton with Paul Merton....an interesting show that would make given that Angus had an affair with Pauls wife "allegedly". See Wiki.
Richard Wilson would make a good host "bit old tho"
Richard Madely just to see him fail really.
Jeremy Vine
May all be good guests

Interesting views, Wayne

I'm not sure that you get paid less for radio than TV because there are fewer listeners.  Rajar does not (publically) break down most Radio4 programmes, but I would have thought that Just a Minute brings in 4-5million listeners per week.  This would compare very favourably with TV panel games.  I suspect it gets good figures too from World Service etc.

Richard Madeley would be good as a guest.  So too would both Jeremy Vine (and his brother Tim)

Hi All
If at all interested, I am sometimes the salaries in general are given for different roles within the BBC. Whilst having a browse I found this site ranting about Nic. I am not agreeing with him or not, but just a point of view I suppose.
So I wonder if Nick is paid as a writer for the introductions etc as well.

A couple of mentions in his blog

23 August
But tonight Nicholas Parsons came to see my [Talking] Cock {his current show] and that's about as good as it gets. I am doing his chat show tomorrow and unlike me he is a true pro and clearly does some research on the people he's talking to, so he wanted to be up to speed on what I was doing this year.

24 August
A couple of nice extra curriculars today. I was on Nicholas Parson's Happy Hour this evening, a non-podcast chat show (how quaint) in the Pleasance Cabaret Bar (where we did the second Edinburgh run of This Morning With Richard Not Judy in 96). Parsons unsurprisingly said he was a bit tired before we went on, but it didn't show in the performance. He bantered with his front row, handing out Smarties, managing to get a hug from an attractive opera singer in the front row, lightly taking the piss out his audience and telling some jokes and anecdotes and doing a fantastic Glaswegian impression (even better than my own). And in spite of his worries that my show was a bit spicy for his audience he did a fair few risque jokes himself, alluding to backdoor activities and penises and I believe he even said "fucking" (though in the middle of his slurring Glaswegian bit) and his packed crowd lapped it up.

The interview was lovely too and I got a chance to ask him a few questions, including about his appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Arthur Haynes had just informed Parsons that he thought it was time for them to go their separate ways before the gig, but Sullivan was effusive after their bit telling Haynes he was working with the best straight man in the business. Parsons was justifiably proud. Nicholas asked me why I hadn't asked him to be on my podcast - I wish that I had, though then again, I am not sure I would want to ask him which animal he would have sex with if he had to. But then again I think he might actually answer quite brilliantly. He is a wonder of the modern age.

Jeremy
