Here it is, an episode of JAM originally broadcast at 1.10pm on Saturday, January 20th, 1968.

It's the first appearance of Prunella Scales and... the first time in the show that a panel member talks for 60 seconds uninterrupted!

For Epsen, Robert and all others who like listening to the continuity before and after the show, here it is in it's entirety, captured live from iPlayer @ 128kbps Joint Stereo:

I'll post the edited version in a few minutes...

Enjoy!

For Wayne, Don and those who just want the show, here is the "edited" (topped and tailed) edition of Episode 5 (according to Dean's list):

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?165oozjsivz5fje

This episode runs for 29mins48secs which seems a lot longer than some of the other early shows. Nicholas even gives out the address to write in for tickets to see the show - this would no doubt have been edited out of the international transcription discs.

First and foremost, MASSIVE thanks to Simon for uploading this lost gem - the first episode to feature an uninterrupted minute! (Yes, it's been established before that Nicholas has sometimes erred in saying something has never happened before, but he only had four episodes to remember, so I think we can assume he got this one right!)

Second, the Radio 4 Extra website lists next week's episode as 26 September 1972, the first episode to feature Clement, Derek, Peter, and Kenneth all together on the panel (first subject: Malapropisms). However, even though this episode has been available to collectors for a while, it's probably still worth listening and, if possible, ripping and uploading; the fact that Episode 5 was very nearly a full half hour long is probably as good an indication as any that even in JaM's earliest years, the TS editions had been pruned by a round or two. We'll likely hear something we haven't heard in over forty years whatever happens!

Again, huge thanks to Simon for uploading Episode 5. (Whether or not they have copies of Episodes 3, 4, and 6, this does mean the longest streak of consecutive missing episodes is down to two - 3 and 4, and 11 and 12. The rest - 6, 9, 23, 34, 36, and 182 - are isolated missing episodes surrounded by existing ones.)

Next weeks episode was aired on radio 4 extra in the 3 hour special 'Just A Minute: Without Hesitation' a few months back as part of the 45th anniversary celebrations.
Will be interesting to see if it is any longer for this broadcast but i doubt it.

If you do a search for 'malapropisms' within this site you'll find all the posts relating to that airing. The special was broadcast on the 17th March - 7! months ago!
