Just a wee heads up from the Radio 4extra news letter that I've just got this afternoon.
They're going to re-broadcast 5 of the regular players' choices of music and chat but apart from Julian, they've not hinted here at who the others are. Suppose we'll just have to listen to find out!

Enjoy, Live or on iPlayer repeats.
Kirsty

Desert Island Discs - Revisited
The Just A Minute Years
Julian Clary

New! Legendary panel game Just A Minute has been marking its 45th Birthday all this year. A trip to India, a foray into TV, the Sony Radio Academy Gold Award for its longstanding and longsuffering presenter Nicholas Parsons and our first broadcast in 45 years of the show's original pilot. And in the month of its actual birthday (December 22nd 1967) we revisit the Desert Island Discs of 5 of the regular players starting with Julian Clary.

Not broadcast since its original transmission in 2005, Julian talks openly to Sue Lawley about being a gay comedian, his need to be fearless, his anxiety and depression after the death of his then partner and that joke about Norman Lamont. Once "banned" from live TV by LWT after his appearance at the British Comedy Awards, Julian won Celebrity Big Brother this year - the ultimate in live broadcasting.

Sunday at 11.15am and 9.15pm

When did winning Celebrity Big Brother become "the ultimate in live broadcasting"?

or depending on how you read it

When did Celebrity Big Brother become "the ultimate in live broadcasting"?

You can listen to and download Julian's appearance on DID here www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/castaway/4cc77c45#p00935f7 - tho the music may be shorter than in the broadcast version on Sunday.

A host of Jam panelists have featured on DID and many of them can be downloaded from the official site (link below), just do a search for whoever you are interested to see if they've done on and whether its available to download.

www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs

(The links arent appearing in preview so if not active just copy and paste into your address bar.)

Every archived episode of Desert Island Discs is already available to listen to on demand (for free) so we can probably guess which episodes they're going to repeat.

First of all, let's eliminate the episodes that, unfortunately, no longer exist in the BBC archive:
Kenneth Williams (22 May 1961) [his first appearance on the show]
Peter Jones (24 Sep 1962)
Derek Nimmo (8 May 1967)
Clement Freud (20 Feb 1967)

These would actually be the four episodes I would most like to hear but unless they've found them recently it's highly unlikely. :-(

That leaves just nine episodes featuring eight regular panel members that still exist in the archive:
Tim Rice (21 Feb 1976 or 27 Jun 2004) [they could use either episode]
Kenneth Williams (26 Jul 1987) [his second appearance on the show]
Paul Merton (19 Sep 1993)
Wendy Richard (9 Jul 1995)
Sheila Hancock (27 Feb 2000)
Graham Norton (2 May 2004)
Julian Clary (25 Sep 2005)
Gyles Brandreth (9 Jan 2011)

We know Julian is the first episode so we need to choose four others...

My guess is:
Kenneth Williams (26 Jul 1987)
Paul Merton (19 Sep 1993)
Sheila Hancock (27 Feb 2000)
Gyles Brandreth (9 Jan 2011)

Anyone else want to have a guess?

My Guess
Sheila Hancock, she is supposed to be on Come Dancing Xmas special so may be a hot choice.

Would go with Kenneth, Paul and Sheila but Graham Norton might be in place of Gyles, a toss of a coin between those two.

Could the reference to Celebrity Big Brother being "the ultimate in live broadcasting"”refer to the fact that you are being broadcast live 24/7?

Incidentally I tried to listen to some of the Desert interviews and found it wouldn’t work – perhaps it ios available to UK users only?

My guess is that they will balance between old and new ones, but that they wont use Gyles from 2011. I'll bet Graham Norton is in the bunch. I'll go with the following:

Julian
Paul
Graham
Kenneth
Sheila

I picked up a copy of the Xmas Radio Times today that covers the schedules up until next year so I can now confirm the five "regular players" that they chose for this series of DID repeats are:

2 Dec - Julian Clary (25 Dec 2005)
9 Dec - Sheila Hancock (27 Feb 2000)
16 Dec - Paul Merton (19 Sep 1993)
23 Dec - Nicholas Parsons (4 Nov 2007)
30 Dec - Wendy Richard (9 Jul 1995)

The four players are all interviewed by Sue Lawley and the JAM presenter is interviewed by Kirsty Young. Certainly not the five we were expecting...

Oh interesting, thanks for letting us know. I actually had 4 of them right... only I had said Kenneth instead of St. Nicholas.
