PS. I noticed that they are Not playing Mornington Crescent as often-
anyone have a "clue" to why?

Does anyone know what part of this might have been edited since broadcast? I went to play it on iPlayer and it was preceded by a note "This episode has been edited since broadcast."

Sorry for the clumsy sentence!

I would assume that they cut out the machine gun bit at the end of the Archers' round, given the events in Sandy Hook.

Well by all accounts they did from the podcast and from the Listen again on the iPlayer, but the copy that I got through RadioDownloader still had that section in place.

That is the copy that has been uploaded. I only realised this when listening on Christmas day. If anyone has been upset by listening to this then please accept my apologies. I really was oblivious to the fact that there was a problem.

I am trying to find the edited version to upload just in case.

I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and are not suffering from Turkey overload.

I don't think that the edited version is necessary.  I think everyone here is interest in archive copies of radio shows.  In a year's time, the bit in question won't be offensive to the majority of people anymore.

I understand why they cut it, of course.  I just understand that it was recorded months ago and was in no way meant to reference the recent tragic news.

I don't mean to cause offence by this post or to downplay what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School. But I'd be suprised if the scene caused offence to the majority of people right now.

This was a British radio show on a British radio station. If one had to edit shows to every tragedy in every country, however sad, then nothing would get broadcast. People - including children - are being killed by other people with various weapons every day worldwide.

If this had been broadcast the day after the event, I'd understand how it would have been in bad taste, or possibly offensive. But it was broadcast well over a week later in a different country and with absolutely no common demoninator with the events at Sandy Hook except that it included automatic weapons. It is, to my mind, not offensive or in bad taste.

I say this being mindful that one of the Sandy Hook victims was British.

I can understand why the international version may have been edited. But I will strongly argue that the domestic version shouldn't have been - and I'm thankful that it wasn't.

Broadcasters are far, far too concerned with upsetting people at the minute. People need to be upset, or even offended, in a healthy society.

Just my opinion, of course.

Cheers

kJ

Well-stated, KJ. I think the thing that is oddly noteworthy to me is that instead of actually banning automatic assault weapons in America, they instead ban/censor references to them in entertainment media immediately after these horrific tragedies... or sometimes they will delay the premiere of movies because of it, such as they did with the new Tom Cruise film. I have always felt that America is a bit of a strange bird in terms of what offends (and what doesn't) in that way -- and I say that as an American. Interesting to say the least.

Sorry. By following the natural direction of that discussion we ended up being pretty far off-topic for the group. Just wanted to comment about the editing of the Clue show. So I definitely press my buzzer and challenge myself with deviating from the subject. ;)

You're a bit late with your challenge. Better go to the audience to see who they think should continue.
