You are of course correct KJ and Don - the connection is not that fast - but I think what is interesting - they became Wayne's files within 10 seconds. How long it takes him to download to his computer is down to him - he can do it piecemeal or in one chunk - but they are now in his possession - and that transfer only took seconds!

Don, I have looked carefully at my clue archive - I would say that around half of my early series are in the rubbish 7mb category. I am still intrigued as to where you get your hands on enough 128kb/s Clue episodes to create a 25gb archive. I am a passionate clue fan - possibly more so than JAM - though it would be close - so you can imagine my excitement if you do have much higher quality episodes - as I have been searching and archiving for years - and have never seen anything higher than I had - which is around 8GB in total.

By the way - my recent few years also come in 128kb/s - and weigh in at around 40mb - and even those are included in the 8gb.

If you ever had the time and if you could ever make them available I would be in your debt! You don't use dropbox by any chance?!!!!!

Agree with kJ there.
To transfer 7.5GB in 10 seconds would require 6Gb/s of bandwidth assuming my calculation is correct.  Wowser! - we can only wish.

Back to my archives...

A 6MB 30 minute mp3 audio file will sound rubbish.
A 25MB 30 minute mp3 audio file may sound good, but it's not guaranteed.

However, size isn't everything, there are many other factors involved.
A 6MB file can be upscaled to a higher bit rate to give 25MB but it won't sound any better.

To get good audio quality from mp3 encoded speech you need at least 96kb/s IMHO.
I go for (at least) 128kb/s if I have a choice.

I have not listened to all the episodes so I cannot say whether my files are all good quality or not but I can say none of the ones I glanced at last night were low bit rate.

Hello Cymro

It's unlikely that 7.5Gb transferred in 10 seconds.  More likely is that the names of the files transferred in 10 seconds with the content of the files dribbling down over the next few hours or days.

The only thing I'd say about commercial hosting is that you need to choose carefully.  Not only do you want a company that's going to be around for a while but you need to check exactly what you're allowed to store.  A lot of hosting companies insist you host websites and not a loose collection of individual files.  Until fairly recently I had backups of various household files stored with one such hosting company - they decided they weren't a website (which they weren't) and deleted them.  So the lesson - read the T&Cs *very* carefully.

Cheers
