Topic: Dropbox test

Message 1 / 23

I have created a Dropbox folder called JAM and put one of the recently shared progs and a picture into it.
If you have installed Dropbox already you should see the folder added to your Dropbox.
I'm guessing if you don't have Dropbox you will be able to see it in your browser when you click the link.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/d02zueijaxrenta/Y3Q9FjLV5f

Let me know if it works OK.
I'd like to know if you can add a file via the browser if you don't have Dropbox installed.

Works great. I clicked on the link, and there I was. Thanks Don :)

I just tried the link in a browser I hadn't used for Dropbox before and it seems you can't add to the folder without installing Dropbox and using that.

You can add the folder to your Dropbox by using the Settings drop-down menu (looks like a gear wheel, top right)

I can see the files you've added and can download them (even before signing up) but there's no way to upload anything without creating an account and installing the Dropbox app.

Dropbox is great -- though for those already using it, a shared JAM folder could seriously eat into our already tight space quotas (shared files take quota from everyone with whom the folder is shared)...

I agree that the misleading "Download" banners on Sendspace and its ilk are most aggravating, though mercifully I've never fallen prey to one.

So, yeah, some sort of closed share for the group would be great.

Well I for one am confused as to how dropbox works. If I follow Don's original link I can see/download from his folder/directory with 2 files (picture and mp3). If I follow Paul's link I see/download a single mp3. Neither link shows all 3 files. So it doesn't seem to act as a single folder/directory to/from which multiple people can upload/downlod ....

There is an option for the originator of the folder to share a folder link.

That's not how it should work.

Paul - if you have Dropbox installed and the folder is added your Dropbox area, you should just drop a new file into the same folder.
It should then appear in all other Dropbox folders i.e. mine and anyone else who has Drobox installed.

Once that works we can sort out which web link to use.

Hi All,

I have Don's JAM folder in my DropBox main folder and I see my file and Don's file and image file also.

I may see the problem. The file that I have added, for some reason, shows that it was Modified 9/26/2012 9:54PM on the website. Maybe this is causing a confusion somewhere along the line. I have just added an edition of The News Quiz that I edited this morning just to check to see if a more up to date file makes a difference. According to my DropBox app it should be synced within the next couple of minutes.

For me (a non-dropbox user) Don's original link is still showing only his two original files ...

I already tried that by sending the link to the Just-a-Minute email address from inside Dropbox.
That never arrived on the Group - I think that's because the Group only accepts emails from registered users - Dropbox isn't one of those.

There is an option for the originator of the folder to share a folder link.
Maybe Don could try that at some point when he has time.

Well  I for one am confused as to how dropbox works. If I follow Don's
original link I can see/download from his folder/directory with 2 files
(picture and mp3). If I follow Paul's link I see/download a single mp3.
Neither link shows all 3 files. So it doesn't seem to act as a single
folder/directory to/from which multiple people can upload/downlod ....

I agree with Charlie.
When I look at my folder in Dropbox I only see my two files.
When I look at Paul's web link I only see his file.

Is this working for people?  I wonder if sharing this way just copies the folder to your Dropbox, as opposed to setting up a shared folder (which you do by individually inviting people by their email address).

Oh, I quite understand.

While I know Dropbox to be risk-free, I'd say that not installing software that strangers on the Internet ask you to install in generally good sense.

My question was directed to those who downloaded Don's shared folder.
