Episode curation techniques

Hi all. I guess we all have our favourite techniques and tools for curating our extensive JAM collections. What I consider so obvious it's not worth mentioning may be a useful tip for others, and vice versa.

So here are a couple of things I do.

- To compare episodes: I use VLC player (free, excellent, nothing it can't play). I start 2 instances of it (right-click the icon a couple of times to create 2 VLC windows.)  Drag one JAM into each window and start each one at the same time.  They will be out of synch a tiny bit - reminding you of your drug-added young days - but at least you can monitor both and see how they differ in terms of speed and rounds.  If they get way out of synch, pause the more advanced one for a second or two, then release it until the slower one catches up. It's actually fun with to with a beer in one hand  :-)

(I use this technique especially with 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' to compare old recordings with ABC edits.)

- A way to quickly find episode starting points is to load a file into an audio editor like Adobe Audition (powerful, not cheap) or Audacity (free) and look at the amplitude wave picture. The applause at the end of each round is visually distinctive, making it easy to find the topic announcements.
