Indeed, I'm mulling over changes to my naming scheme - such as [tags] - to manage episodes. I've started using tags like [fulledit] and plus (+) symbols to indicate add-on rounds. I like your tagname protocol suggestion.

One thing I have started doing is to keep a complete history of ALL of my past, present and future episode edits (including FLAC versions) on my NAS so I can delve back in time and time earlier versions that might suddenly be useful later in the light of missing rounds or repair jobs being required.

It does mean I have 1589 JAM variants so far, but storage is cheap nowadays, and adding a version number at the end of a name is pretty easy to do.

My guess is that in cases where the TS includes material not present in the UK broadcast, the original raw studio recording was used to create both versions. I also assume that recording is a lot longer than 30 minutes.

Might I suggest we include some tags in the filenames to indicate the source. Something like:

[UK] - Original UK airing
[TS] - Transcription service
[TA] - Transcription service airing that's known to contain additional material not in the BBC version.
[CD] - CD source
[EX] - Extended edition (our own edits)
[EB] - Extended broadcast edition (if the BBC ever air a longer cut for any reason)
[WS] - World Service edition (probably matches the UK edition but useful to keep the source known)
[RR] - BBC rerun that's known to be shorter than the original airing (don't know if any of these exists, but useful to plan for them.
[ED] - Version that's edited for some other reason. (Edits that don't fit into above categories).

It's a lot of tags, but it should cover all eventualities...

Maybe I'm over-complicating things. I open it to the group for your thoughts. :)

Another option is to use MP3 tags to store round information, but those tags are harder to access and AFAIK impossible to search by...

And does anyone know which versions of recordings they use for CD issues. Is there such a thing as a "mastercopy" from which TS/WS/normal radio broadcasts etc are adapted? Could a CD release be missing rounds?
