Mark - It does indeed lack the precision of Audacity or Adobe Audition, but I usually find it precise enough and (to me) its easier to use. I use mp3DirectCut to slice out of the low quality file and save (no re-encoding) the bit I want to patch in; I then use Audacity to re-encode that low quality patch to the same bitrate/kHz and m/s/js and volume as the good quality file; then use mp3Directcut to paste the re-encoded patch into the good quality file and resave (no re-encoding).
