Topic: Episode 450 - A Crash Course. What we have (ABC?) vs. World Service comparison.

There is nothing missing in the WS version that's present in the version we have.  However, the version we have has considerable edits of content that is presented in the WS version.

There are a few little chops here and there, but the most significant two cuts are these:

In the round "A Crash Course", Derek Nimmo makes a reference to two planes coming within "A bee's dick" of each other.  Because he was buzzed while he was saying this, the edit removes quite a lot of surrounding material, and two entire segments in the round are gone.  (The clock resumes at 25 seconds in the WS cut and 11 seconds in the version we already have).

This entire exchange is missing in the version we already had (source Dean's site):

NP:So at the end of that round Paul Merton got lots of points for speaking, er, on the previous round.
LAUGHTER FROM DN AND THE AUDIENCE
DN: Oh he's gone!
PM: At least we know what...
NP: I didn't bother to give the score at the end of the previous round when Paul got those three points.
PM: We know what to put on the certificate. Christopher Nicholas Parsons is to be detained at her Majesty's Pleasure...

The rest of the cuts are fairly insignificant, but you're missing a chunk of material if you decide to keep the older (higher quality) copy.  I'm going with the WS edition on this one.

Thanks for this. Unless anyone beats me to it I'll make merged version in a few days.

Hi all,

Here a merged version: http://www.sendspace.com/file/1v2srg

I used the ABC version that I got from Mark's JAM jar and add the two bits James mentions from the WS version.

Hi all,

I'm quite new to audio editing, and after re-listening to my merged version yesterday, I wasn't happy with my edit. So I did it again, and here is the replacement copy: http://www.sendspace.com/file/r6sbe0 It's the same as my last edit, but without jerky transitions between ABC audio and WS audio.

When I did the first version I originally wanted to do a complete merged version with every little word put back in (I'm a bit OCDy that way), but didn't have the patience, so I just did the bits James pointed out. So, if anyone else ever wants to do a word-by-word merge or thinks they can do a better edit, please do.

Josey

May I point out in episode 13, Nicholas belched and in the recording relaesed in Australia this wasn't reflected. If anyone has the original this would be most appreciated.
