Often Radio 4 gets enquiries about who spoke the first whole minute on JAM. I well recall in the mid-seventies Peter Jones was given the subject of Ballet. He went so well N.P. didn't stop him. He actually went for nearly 90 seconds ! This is never ever mentioned on any discussion about the Programme. It will, of course, be in the BBC Archives somewhere... Martyn Miles .

There's also the time that Kenny Everett spoke for 90 seconds on the subject of 'Marbles'.

There are probably a few other occasions where guests spoke for more than a minute although I haven't sat down and timed them yet to see who spoke for the longest.

The first person to speak for 60 seconds, according to Nicholas, was Andrée Melly, in Episode 5, first broadcast on 20th January 1968...

Me too. He came to a local school in the '80s and did one of his amusing talks. In the question sessions at the end I asked if he was going to make any more 'J. Kingston Platt'programmes. He said I was the first to ever mention the programme to him ! Martyn .
