Beeep! Can I challenge Jeremy for deviation from correct English for the misspelling of the word "programme" in his signature?

(I'm also Australian and this Americanisation is up there in my niggle-list alongside the Australian "Labor" party).

Hi

A) it's the title they gave me
B) but I find programme hard to take when I see it in print, and
C) it was program (like anagram, diagram etc) until early 19th century when the French form was taken (according to fowler: pretentious, moi?)

And I can never remember if -ize or -ise is the way the Queen spells it.

Hello Jeremy,

Well done on having an 19th century job title!  :-)

Personally I prefer -ise. But it isn't clear which to use when. Some dictionaries list -ise as an alternative form of -ize. But some dictionaries (such as Macmillan or Collins) list -ise as the preferred format in British English.  I guess it's the same French influence again.

I pass on what Macquarie says...

Speaking of Alanis Morissette and the misuse of irony, I wish Ed Byrne (Irish comedian) would do a JAM recording ...

Let's not be too critical of poor Espen. As a Norwegian, he has more important things to worry about at the moment.  From the 'Odd spot' of yesterday's Melbourne Age...

Angry viewers in Oslo bombarded a TV program with complaints about its contents - whether to burn wood with the bark up or down,
Host Lars Mytting said: "We received about 60 text messages from people. One thing that really divides Norway is bark."

You know, someday I'll just take for granted you've got everything stored in your jar. Someday I have learnt. ;)

(ironically you sent this mail just as I made a MP3 file out of my fresh rip :) )

I just do what the Americans don't.

It's easier that way  :-)

I see what you did there. You brought this rambling OT thread back on topic.

How cunning!
