I have used the Mega site for file sharing and enjoy their generous allocation of free storage space but it does not provide any more protection than Mediafire, Sendspace, et al.  You can secure your files on Mega by using an encrypted key for access so only those people with whom you share the key can access your files, even Mega themselves cannot look inside them.  If you share the key on a public forum, such as Old Harrys Game Messageboard, or a semi-private one such as this Yahoo Group, then the copyright violation detectors will find them. You can gain some protection by using code names instead of programme names, by zipping or RAR'ing files or hiding them inside jpeg's, etc, but this will only delay the inevitable Take Down Notice which Mega will enforce, - and of course all these measures make the files less accessible to everyone.

For short term sharing I would recommend Zippyshare, they are fairly quick at taking down files but they don't punish the uploader - at least, they've never taken action against me (touch wood).  For long term sharing it is more effective to create a torrent and share it on a  "members only" site such as radioarchive.cc, the box.bz, etc (though these sites are already on borrrowed time) - or stick 2 fingers up to the authorities and post it on good ol' Pirate Bay.

Sadly, file-sharing ain't what it used to be.  Make the most of the sharing we can do today, tomorrow it will be gone for ever and we will look back fondly on these times and tell our grandchildren of the glory days when you could download anything you wanted for free . . .
