Topic: Hello! May I introduce myself and thank you all..

Message 1 / 9

I've actually been a member of this group for nearly two years. I've read every single post and agreed or argued with you all in my own head.

And now... I've decided that being a wallflower on the internet - a place that exists for quiet people to get a chance to talk - is just plain silly.

So... hello. ;o)

The other thing is, I wanted to thank all of you who upload, stream and maintain websites for the amazing work you do. Here's my story. About two and a half years ago, I hit a serious wall of depression. The only thing that has kept me from endless sleepless nights staring into the abyss, is listening to Just a Minute as I go to sleep. For that, I have you guys to thank.
So yeah, it's not just a flippant thank you. I truly owe you so much. If I could buy any of you a pint or other beverage of your choice, I would love to. Honestly, send me your PayPal address and I will.

I'm off to go sign up for the forum now. Maybe in a couple of years I'll talk there too!
It's nice to meet you all.

welcome BethAnne - sorry to hear about your depression, but glad it's on the improve.

Feel free to write again and tell us abt yr favourite or least favourite panellists - whether you prefer the Kenneth or Paul eras - who should be the best chairman - or anything else.

with best wishes

Dean

Welcome, BethAnne!

Glad your depression is getting better, and that you've introduced yourself to us.  I like to think we're a friendly group, even if we occasionally debate a few things.

Welcome to Just A Minute!

I don't share files due to legal reasons, but I'm glad to see you finally
post. I'm also a lurker most of the time and usually don't post much. I
don't drink alcohol, but a nice, hot cup of tea would be appreciated. Just
have it for me. There is no need to buy me a cup.

I am in stage IV kidney failure, so I can at least somewhat relate to mild
depression. I'm not taking an antidepressent, but I'm taking a small amount
of medication for it. I'm at 22% kidney function and stage V is dialysis.
I'm hoping for a living donor so I can get a transplant, but I'm not even on
the waiting list yet and there is usually at least a four year wait. When
I'm feeling down or otherwise not doing very well, I listen to JAM. It
isn't the only thing I listen to and certainly not the only comedy, but I
can usually get at least a couple of laughs out of it. It doesn't instantly
get rid of the problem since the problem is largely physical, but it usually
helps me feel a little better. I'm chronically tired, weak, don't have a
lot of energy, have joint pains, etc. I also like Many a Slip, The Now Show
and a few others. For mental stimulation, I like quiz shows like Brain of
Britain, Quote Unquote, Round Britain Quiz, etc.

Nice to meet you BethAnne!

We all have our reasons for loving Just A Minute. I work solo doing preventive maintenance each night for a machine shop taking care of 50 or so pieces of machinery. As there are only 5 other people in the building and I am mobile throughout my shift, I stick an iPod in my pocket and don headphones while listening to JAM recordings for about 4 hours a day. Needless to say I have listened to my episodes over and over again!

Hi BethAnne.  I'm a cardiac surgeon and I also like to relax and drift away mentally during those long surgeries.
I can get through about 20 episodes during an average heart transplant; fewer if the patient dies, which tends to happen during the really funny bits when I start laughing.

I love how JAM helps to get me through my stressful day.

Well, at first I liked the older shows better. I like the in-jokes,
and the feeling that all the regulars knew each other so well. I also
liked that it wasn't always about who can be funniest.
I've grown more fond of the newer shows over time, but I'd still say I
prefer the older ones.
My favourite players are the erudite ones with a surreal sense of
humour. (I'm using Nicholas's words to describe them - does that man
own shares in the word "erudite"?)
I have to say I don't really care for Kenneth Williams. He's okay but
I find my mind wandering whenever he's talking. I preferred him in
other things he's done. There was a serious piece he did - I think
it's Gogol's Diary of a Madman - which I thought was brilliant and
really showed his full talent.
I think I'll write more often now. This is fun. ;-)
