I rarely make comments here (but enjoy reading them) but have recently had cause to be relieved that the Jamjar is available.

I usually record JAM using Polderbits. This week I realised I had forgotten to record last weeks edition. As it’s no longer available on the BBC listen again site I went through the process of registering with the JAM forum and ‘unlocking’ the Nylon net site and was able to find what I was missing. Many, many thanks to whoever is responsible for the Jamjar; I can’t remember your name but I am immensely grateful.

For those of you who may be wondering how to record JAM each week for yourself, I do it using Polderbits audio recorded. I’ve used this for years and years. It may not be the best and it isn’t free but it works fine for me. When I got it, I downloaded it and was able to use the full programme free for 30 days. At the end of that period I paid to unlock the programme and have used it ever since. It will record anything which is streaming to your computer, it can be used to convert .wav to .mp3 and vice versa. The audio file can be carefully edited and the recorded sound enhanced with a graphic equalizer.

Thanks again to the originator of the Jamjar.

Antony

A similar oddity... since Clement' s death in April 2009, Gyles Brandreth and Sue Perkins are second and third in total appearances. Yet in those four and a half years, they have not been on a show together.

I blame that QI episode they did where Gyles kept trying to hold Sue's hand. :)

Thanks for your appreciation of the jamjar, Antony. I'll keep the lid off for as long as I can.

I record JAM using i-Sound (www.abyssmedia.com/isound7) which restores the "What-You-Hear" option that has been removed from most computers due to the copyright police threatening them. It allows recording in several lossy and lossless formats, and you can set up scheduling (for 5am recordings of 'My Word' on Radio National, for example).
