Do we have any fans of Count Arthur Strong in our midst?  I saw in review that his autobiography (Through it All I’ve Always Laughed: Memoirs of Count Arthur Strong) mentions his appearance on JAM. Knowing Arthur's usual state of befuddlement, I am sure his account bears no relation to reality but I am curious to know what he says.  Is there anyone who has read the book and can pass on the Count's pearls of wisdom?
I wonder if the producers of JAM would consider inviting Arthur?  They were able to cope Stanley Unwin and his mangled language, so why not Arthur with his spoonerisms, malapropisms and wide-ranging ignorance?

Hi
In his own radio show he plans to go onto JAM and has a rehearsal with another character that is quite funny, but if I recall correctly we never hear him actually playing the game with the team.

Thanks for that, I didn't know he had spoken of JAM on his radio show. Which episode is it?

Yeh I enjoy Count Arthur Strong. I preferred the TV version they did last year - a nice balance of comedy and pathos I think they call it. Rory Kinnear was in that playing the straight man.

Really, I thought the TV version was a let down.Yes, he is Roy Kinnear`s son. A well known British comedy actor who died making the 3 musketeers.
On 19 September 1988, Kinnear fell from a horse during the making of The Return of the Musketeers in ToledoSpain, and sustained a broken pelvis. He was taken to hospital in Madrid but died from a heart attack the next day. He was 54 years old.[4] He is buried in East Sheen Cemetery.
After his death, Kinnear's family demanded an official investigation into the level of medical care he had received in Spain. Director Richard Lester decided to quit the film business as a direct result of Kinnear's death.[5]

Count Arthur Strong is a fictional character played by Steve Delaney, who is also the lead writer of the radio/tv series. Arthur's age is supposed to be 72. Steve created the character back in the eighties when he was a young drama student and performed his first sketch featuring the Count at the end-of-term show. Steve is now 58 or 59 (I can't find his exact date of birth anywhere) so is still a lot younger than his alter ego.

Presumably if he was invited on JAM it would be as comedian Steve Delaney?

I believe Steve Delaney is careful to preserve the fiction that Count Arthur Strong is real; if he were on JAM there would be no question of him suddenly going into character (which he can do at the drop of a hat) then back to being himself again.  I would hope to hear Count Arthur only, with no mention of Steve Delaney.

If the Count appearing on JAM is unlikely, what about Nicholas appearing in Count Arthur's radio show?  A brief spoof episode of JAM could be inserted anywhere, as a dream sequence or one of Arthur's wholly unreliable memories.  Nicholas has bravely appeared in send-ups of JAM and himself in the past, so it might just happen!

Oops, silly me, I should have known that - the episode is actually titled "Just A Minute".  Thanks for refreshing my sieve-like memory!

I can't imagine JAM ever featuring an alter-ego as a guest, although that sort of thing does happen on chat shows. Some obvious candidates would be:

Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan)
Lily Savage (Paul O'Grady)
David Brent (Ricky Gervais)
Dame Edna Everage (Barry Humphries)
Keith Lemon (Leigh Francis)

After listening to the JAM-related episode of Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show I was disappointed not to hear Nicholas in it, especially as Sue Perkins appears voicing some of the other characters in Series 2 & 3. Perhaps it was Sue who gave Steve the idea to create the JAM spoof?
