From A Bird's Eye View
UK/USA, ITV (ITC for ATV)/NBC (Sheldon Leonard Productions), Sitcom, Colour, 1971
Starring: Millicent Martin, Patte Finley, Peter Jones

A sitcom vehicle for Millicent Martin, who starred as Millie, a somewhat scatterbrained stewardess for International Airlines, who could never resist helping people even though it usually ended in trouble. She flew the London-America route with her more sensible American colleague Maggie (played by Patte Finley). Peter Jones appeared as their harassed boss.

The series was an international co-production, funded jointly by the then Sir Lew Grade's ITC and a US company which sold the series to NBC, but was shot in England (hence the call for such supporting players as Arthur Mullard, Jess Conrad, Richard Briers, Frank Thornton, Carmen Munro, Clive Dunn and John Laurie). The director was an American, Ralph Levy, who had worked with Jack Benny and George Burns.

Shortly after From A Bird's Eye View finished on US screens came a similar series, Shirley's World This too starred a top name (Shirley MacLaine) gallivanting around the globe, was made in England by Lew Grade for the American executive producer Sheldon Leonard, and shared many of the same writers and crew as the earlier series.

Researched and written by Mark Lewisohn.

Transmission Details
Number of episodes: 15 Length: 25 mins
US dates: 29 Mar-16 Aug 1971
*UK dates: 16 Sep 1973-29 Mar 1975 (15 episodes) mostly Sun around 12 midnight

*Note. These dates refer to London-ITV screenings. The series suffered from inconsistent UK scheduling: Lew Grade's ATV broadcast 15 episodes between 18 September 1970 and 1 January 1971 but it wasn't shown in London until September 1973, when 12 programmes went out very late on Sunday nights. The remaining three were not seen in the capital until they were included in a repeat run in early 1975.
