I thought it would be fun if we all introduced ourselves. I just put
together a questionaire - feel free to answer all the questions or not,
give your reasons or not, but I just thought it might be a light-hearted
way of starting discussion.
1. My favourite Just a Minute panellist is.... because....
2. If I could pick four people for my best ever Just a Minute panel,
they would be... because...
3. The person/s I would like to hear more of on Just a Minute is....
because...
4. The first time I heard Just a Minute, I thought...
5. I think if Kenneth Williams and Paul Merton had ever been on the show
together....
6. The funniest moment ever on Just a Minute was...
7. The reason I love listening to Just a Minute is...
8. If you've been to a Just a Minute recording, tell us about it!
9. If you've ever played Just a Minute yourself, tell us about it!
10. If I could meet a Just a Minute star and ask them one question, I
would want to meet..... and the question would be....
11. The Just a Minute star I most look like/act like is...
12. If I had to speak for 60 seconds on a subject without hesitation,
repetition or deviation, it would be...

1. My favourite Just a Minute panellist ( of those living ) is tony
hawks because i met him at a literary festival in fowey conrwall
last maywhere he gave a talk when he found out i was from ireland (
i asked a question and seeing as he had spent time here going round
ireland with a fridge he picked up my accent and asked me was i
irish ) and had travelled to see his show he spoke to me for ages
afterwards . he is a really nice guy .
2. If I could pick four people for my best ever Just a Minute panel,
they would be: there are too many just to pick 4 here is my list :
paul merton ( i don't like him very much but no one can deny he is a
very good player of the game ) , tony hawks , clement freud and
either graham norton chris neil , or shelia hancock. i think this
would work because i think all of them are good talkers there would
be good arguments about challenges and the exuberence of either niel
or norton would be very funny . i am only picking form the players
that are still alive . if i could include those that have passed on
you could also add peter jones , derek nimmo , linda smith or kenneth
willams and pick from that list .
3. The person/s I would like to hear more of on Just a Minute is tony
hawks because... he seems to have more or less dissapered during this
season and the last one . he is not even a semi regular guest now .
4. The first time I heard Just a Minute, I thought... it was an
intersting funny show .
5. I think if Kenneth Williams and Paul Merton had ever been on the
show together.... there would be skin and hair flying if paul paul
interuped as kenneth as much as he does other players ! also i wonder
how kenneth would react to the favroutisism nicholas has shown to
paul !
6. The funniest moment ever on Just a Minute was ( janey i hope this
is'nt too rude ) graham nortons joke about socks the cat in the white
house being the only pussy that hillary clinton does'nt mind bill
petting . i thought it was so funnny .
7. The reason I love listening to Just a Minute is... i love verbal
humour . listeing to people trying and failing to talk for the minute
is very funny . also the way the topics are twisted round is very
good to . for example sue perkins talking about newcastle borwn ale
lwent on to talk about newcastle fc !
8. If you've been to a Just a Minute recording, tell us about it! no
sorry . i am not in the uk and travel is a bit diffcult . if anyone
hears of a recording in belfast please let me know !
9. If you've ever played Just a Minute yourself, tell us about it! i
have'nt
10. If I could meet a Just a Minute star and ask them one question, I
would want to meet. and the question would be.... chrisd niel . was
it hard to let go the rains when he moved form the producers chair to
the contestants chair ( sorry this is so crap it is all i can come up
with right now !)
11. The Just a Minute star I most look like/act like is... don;t
really know . a mixture of a few i think !
12. If I had to speak for 60 seconds on a subject without hesitation,
repetition or deviation, it would be... the rock band marillion or ma
nchester united football club
13. Three key facts I'd like everyone on the group to know about me
are...
1: i am irish so i can;t get to recordings at all .
2: i am a newer fan ( just been into the show for just over a year
now ) who has'nt heard so much of the older episodes ( pre 1990)
3: i am dyslexic so if you ever see any strange spellings in my posts
you know why .

I'll give it a go. Though I didn't do all the questions, here are some
of my responses....
1. My favourite Just a Minute panellist is.... because....
Linda Smith. She didn't really take the game all that seriously, but
it definitely sounded like she had a good time in all the programs she
appeared in. Such a tragic shame to lose this one-of-a-kind
comedienne, I'm still rather upset over her death last year.
2. If I could pick four people for my best ever Just a Minute panel,
they would be... because...
a. Paul Merton, his surreal wanderings are always welcome. Without
him, lets face it, JAM would have probably died out after the loss of
Kenneth Williams.
b. Clement Freud, the stalwart, there from the beginning, the only
remaining original male panellist still alive, and even now he is
still the king.
c. Graham Norton, one of the best of the "new breed" of JAM players,
always can be counted on to bring something outrageous to the table.
d. Sheila Hancock, one of the original female panellists, one who
could hold her own with the best of them, very good at the game, and
appeared to enjoy herself immensely.
3. The person/s I would like to hear more of on Just a Minute is....
because...
Aimi Macdonald, I adored her voice and she was rather amusing and was
able to put up with the dominant males in the 70's and 80's. And just
as Sheila came back triumphantly in 2002, I would love for Aimi to
"get the call" and return as a JAM panellist.
4. The first time I heard Just a Minute, I thought...
I thought it was an amazing program, and I realized just how difficult
it really is to be able to speak for a minute, without hesitation
repetition or deviation. I have tremendous respect for the panellists
who actually make it to the full minute.
5. I think if Kenneth Williams and Paul Merton had ever been on the show
together....
It would be interesting, needless to say. Kenneth's intelligence and
erudition versus Paul's surreal musings. I don't honestly know if it'd
work as a whole, to be honest.
6. The funniest moment ever on Just a Minute was...
There are several that come to mind. Graham bringing down the house
after a rather rude joke about Socks, Bill Clinton's cat. And probably
the funniest episode ever broadcast was one of Paul's first
appearances in 1989 (the final program of the series, first round
"Poker"). Derek and his dog named after a king's appendage, Peter
talking about his swimsuit (and cashew nuts). Classic from start to end.
7. The reason I love listening to Just a Minute is...
Even a sub-par program brings a smile to my face. I also enjoy the
fact that they mix the performers up, as well as bring in new faces
(as well as the occasional return of a panellist from days gone by).
Even when the topics are repeated, the show never seems stale because
the variety in the performers keeps the show from being boring.
8. If you've been to a Just a Minute recording, tell us about it!
Sadly, I've never been to a JAM recording, being stuck over here in
Canada. But I imagine it's a lot of fun, and I hope someday to be able
to attend one, provided JAM is still being recorded.
9. If you've ever played Just a Minute yourself, tell us about it!
I've not actually played JAM, but I have tried choosing topics at
random and trying to speak for a minute. I don't think I've ever
succeeded yet. :)
There we go!

This is a really introspective survey! Please excuse the capslocking:
it's not yelling, just differentiating between question and answer.
1. My favourite Just a Minute panellist is STEPHEN FRY because HE'S
JUST SO ERUDITE AND WITTY . . . YOU KNOW IT WILL BE A TREAT WHEN HE'S
ON.
2. If I could pick four people for my best ever Just a Minute panel,
they would be STEPHEN FRY (of course), CLEMENT FREUD, JULIAN CLARY,
and PAUL MERTON.
3. The person/s I would like to hear more of on Just a Minute is ROB
BRYDON, because I AM IN LOVE WITH HIS COMEDY STYLE.
4. The first time I heard Just a Minute, I thought HOLY JESUS, I'M NOW
GOING TO HAVE TO CATCH UP ON 40 YEARS OF THIS WONDERFUL SHOW!
5. I think if Kenneth Williams and Paul Merton had ever been on the
show together, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETE HYSTERICAL CHAOS!
6. The funniest moment ever on Just a Minute was I HAVEN'T BEEN
LISTENING EVER SO LONG, AND STILL THERE ARE TOO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM. I
LOVED WHEN CLEMENT HOSTED IN 1983 AND WAS EXCEEDINGLY UNGENEROUS TO
NICHOLAS, CAUSING THE LATTER TO CRY OUT, "OH, KENNETH, IT'S SO
DIFFICULT!"
7. The reason I love listening to Just a Minute is IT'S THE BEST WAY
TO CHEER ONESELF UP AFTER A TOUGH DAY, HANDS DOWN.
8. If you've been to a Just a Minute recording, tell us about it!
I ONLY WISH!
9. If you've ever played Just a Minute yourself, tell us about it!
MY FRIEND AND I ARE TRYING TO WORK ON GETTING A GROUP TOGETHER . . .
10. If I could meet a Just a Minute star and ask them one question, I
would want to meet STEPHEN FRY and the question would be HOW CAN I BE
YOU?! (--A QUESTION WHICH IS A LITTLE BETTER THAN, "CAN I HAVE YOUR
BABIES?")
11. The Just a Minute star I most look like/act like is PROBABLY
PAULINE MCLYNN (OR SOMETHING). SHE'S SO FABULOUS AND QUIRKY.
12. If I had to speak for 60 seconds on a subject without hesitation,
repetition or deviation, it would be A RANT ABOUT SCHOOLING (SO MANY
THINGS TO SAY IN SO LITTLE TIME AVOIDS THOSE THREE TRAPS), OR AN ISSUE
COMPLETELY DEAR TO MY HEART, LIKE PANTIES WITH NO ELASTIC THAT DON'T
BLISTER!
13. Three key facts I'd like everyone on the group to know about me
are:
1) I'M AMERICAN! (BUT VERY MUCH AN ANGLOPHILE.)
2) I TOO HAVE A TRANSCRIPT SITE:
http://www.qitranscripts.com
FOR THAT WONDERFUL SHOW QI (HENCE THE STEPHEN FRY-NESS).
HOWEVER, I'M NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AT GETTING TRANSCRIPTS UP AS BLOODY
(SORRY) DEAN! COMPLIMENT, REALLY: I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT!
3) I'LL BE A PSYCHIATRIST ONE DAY. KEEP MY NUMBER.

1. My favourite JAM panellist is Paul Merton because of his
surrealism, wit and the fact that he seems to enjoy every game he
plays.
2. If I could pick four people for my best ever Just a Minute panel
they would be Paul Merton, Ross Noble, Linda Smith and Graham
Norton. They know exactly what they're doing, what works and what
doesn't.
3. The person/s I would like to hear more of on JAM are Stephen Fry
for that impressive intelligence of his and Ross Noble because he's
just that good.
4. The first time I heard Just a Minute I thought how have I never
heard about this before?
5. I think if Kenneth Williams and Paul Merton had ever been on the
show together it would have been very, very interesting. They would
have either annoyed the hell out of each other or worked perfectly,
who knows?
6. The funniest moment ever on Just a Minute was...I can't possibly
pick one funniest moment. Herbacious Borders, chicken and jam,
Clement's 18 year old in the fridge, a sheepdog called Old Alumni
that brings Paul his heroin... Too many to name =]
7. The reason I love listening to Just a Minute is...I learn
something new everytime I listen to it. Not necessarily true, but I
still learn something!
8. If you've been to a Just a Minute recording, tell us about it!
Sadly never been to a recording, I hope that changes when I move to
London.
9. If you've ever played Just a Minute yourself, tell us about it!
Something I should get round to.
10. If I could meet a Just a Minute star and ask them one question,
I would want to meet Stephen Fry and the question would be "Have you
ever lost an argument?" - He just seems to be the sort of person who
could convince anybody that they were wrong about something =P
11. The Just a Minute star I most look like/act like is...well, with
my glasses I'd say Sue Perkins.
12. If I had to speak for 60 seconds on a subject without
hesitation, repetition or deviation, it would be...The X Files
13. Three key facts I'd like everyone on the group to know about me
are...I'm currently living in Cyprus, I love playing the guitar and
my favourite comedian is...Paul Merton =]

- My
favourite Just a Minute panellist is Paul Merton, because I’m a fan
of his. As seen on Have I Got News For You, he is very intelligent (despite
his CSE un-graded in metalwork) and can keep talking for a while. He never
fails to make me laugh out loud whenever he is on Just a Minute. He also
gets me laughing when he makes funny comments on other panellists’
monologues that aren’t necessarily challenges, and his fantasy of an
affair with Clement Freud is a great running joke, as is the life and
times of Nicholas Parsons.
- If
I could pick four people for my best ever Just a Minute panel, they would
be Paul Merton, Clement Freud, Ross Noble and either Graham Norton, Tim
Rice, Kit Hesketh-Harvey, Chris Neill or the late great Linda Smith. All
great talkers and could talk and argue for
Britain , if given the chance!
- The
person/s I would like to hear more of on Just a Minute is Dara O’Briain,
because he is one of the funniest comedians around at the moment, and it’s
a shame that he hasn’t the time to record more shows than he would
like. L
- The
first time I heard Just a Minute, I thought “I’ll have to
click ‘Listen Again’ later and listen to it a few times to
catch all the gags. A bit like an audio version of Naked Gun set in 2006
or something.
- I
think if Kenneth Williams and Paul Merton had ever been on the show
together I think I’d be on acid or something. I’d also think
Kenneth would have it “infamy”. J
- The
funniest moment ever on Just a Minute was when Paul Merton was talking
about being a “fish out of water” when he first appeared on
Just a Minute, and Clement Freud buzzed in saying “Nothing has
changed!”
- The
reason I love listening to Just a Minute is the long suffering host
Nicholas Parsons. He holds the show together despite Paul Merton’s
funny monologues and Clement Freud’s lists, trying to give the “benefit
of the doubt” to anyone who’ll have it.
- Sorry,
I’ve never been to a Just a Minute recording, although if they
choose Wigan as a recording location I’ll
be there in a shot!
- I’ve
never played Just a Minute myself.
- If
I could meet a Just a Minute star and ask them one question, I would want
to meet Nicholas Parsons, and the question would be “do you want to
borrow my ladder?” Nah, seriously it would be “how do you put
up with the constant barrage of abuse from Paul and Clement?”
- The
Just a Minute star I most look like is Marcus Brigstocke, because I have
longish dark hair and wear glasses, although I don’t like corduroy. I
most act like Paul or Ross Noble, because I love that weird and wonderful
fantasy world.
- If
I had to speak for 60 seconds on a subject without hesitation, repetition
or deviation, it would be the games company Nintendo or the rock band
Genesis. I’d probably get buzzed half-way though.
- Three
key facts I’d like everyone on the group to know about me are…
a) I am 23 years old.
b) I have Asperger’s Syndrome.
c) I have been listening to Just a Minute for just over a year, so am a
new-ish fan to the show, and am interested in the show’s history and
would like to learn more.
Will that do? J
